THE RETURN OF JESUS

Imagine a day unlike any other, where the skies above us unfurl like the pages of an ancient, celestial manuscript, revealing the final chapter of a story written before time itself. This is not the beginning of a fable, but the culmination of an age-old promise—the Return of Jesus Christ. The scriptures speak of this moment with profound certainty, as Revelation 1:7 declares, “Behold, he comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him.” Jesus, who ascended into heaven robed in His blessed humanity, will return in like manner. This is the cornerstone of our faith, the event that every eye will witness, as He descends upon a cloud in divine majesty.

The disciples, who had walked with Jesus, witnessed this mystery in its nascent stage. They saw their Lord, their teacher, their friend, rise into the heavens, veiled by a cloud—a poignant symbol of the divine presence. As they stood gazing skyward, messengers of God stood by them and proclaimed, as in Acts 1:11, that this Jesus, who was taken up in a cloud, would return just as He had left. The very clouds that shrouded Him from their sight would one day part to herald His return.

The world below continued its rhythms, oblivious to the transformation taking place in the hearts of those who had seen Him ascend. The disciples, once ordinary men and women, were now ambassadors of an otherworldly joy. They preached not a Christ who was absent, but one who was actively interceding, who was, even then, preparing to return. Their message resonated with the sound of truth, and it cut through the noise of the world, converting many to the faith.

In this grand cosmic theater, the apostle Paul’s words from 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 resonate with hope and power. At the trumpet call, the dead in Christ will emerge from their silent graves, and along with the living, will be called upward to meet Jesus in the air, amidst the clouds. It is here, in this holy convocation in the skies, that we will be united with our Savior.

This is not a mere waiting for an event; it is an active, vibrant hope. It is knowing that the same Jesus who left us, cloaked in the humility of flesh, as described in Acts 1:11, will return in a celebration of glory, as foretold in Revelation 1:7. And when He calls, the resurrected will rise—defying gravity, transcending time—to join Him in the eternal realm. Let this image ignite our imagination and fuel our faith: the clouds parting, the trumpet sounding, and the skies alive with the reunion of Christ with His faithful. Until then, we watch, we wait, we hope, and we prepare for the return of Jesus. For in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, we will be caught up in the clouds to meet our Lord, and so shall we ever be with Him.
